Prateleiras Peak, Itatiaia

#7 of 14 in Parks in Itatiaia
Prateleiras Peak is a dream for the truly adventurous! This stunning natural wonder reaches 2539 m (8300 ft) in altitude, so it’s not for those scared of heights, but the view is absolutely breathtaking who are determined to reach the top. The initial part of the ascent is quite easy, but towards the end it gets more difficult, requiring ropes and lots of courage. It’s recommended to go with a guide and be very prepared with boots, walking sticks, snacks, and water. Walk above the clouds and take in the 360 degree view. Anyone can climb the mountain shelf. We went with a group in which a boy of 11 years participated of the climb. Who has the most old can stop in certain part of the climb and enjoy the view of the site-people more willing can reach the top without much problem, but always with a guide to making a safe ride. We climbed up to the peak without appliances-only at the very end it was necessary to use rope to get from one stone to another, but very simple. The downside to who is more sedentary is the walk you have to do to get to the foot of the mountain: almost 2 hours walking. Over the same time in the back after going down. The ascent itself does not get tired because you go super slow. Going with a guide, you can get around 7:00 and go around 5:00 pm.

There's no way to describe the feeling of getting to the top and put your name in the book. A visual to get the breath, it's worth all the fatigue of the journey.

It is possible to know the attractions without a guide if the intention is only the hiking trails, but for those who want more adventures, hire a guide to the escalaminhadas and enjoy the ride with good photos and safety. The downside is the service in the lobby of the park for information and organization, as well as the payment only in cash. It is necessary to get password for the attractions.

I enjoyed the location, and I noted that the peak of shelves in Itatiaia, inspired the artist Brecheret, in the execution of works of the monument to the Flags located in Ibirapuera Park in São Paulo. The DNA "of stones and even the Inspiration of canoes, and horses of the monument and of nature. 2017/June

Ascent of peak (shag rocks ") require experience and skill, a lot of attention (go with a guide if you have no experience and height). Spectacular, awesome place.

Where to stay in Itatiaia

Despite being the largest town in the area, Itatiaia offers relatively few places to stay. Your best bet is to look for accommodations in the town center, near Praça da Emancipação, where you'll find a few small hotels and inns. If you want to visit the national park, look for accommodations at the park's entrance, or even inside its boundaries, rather than in town. You can also find a much larger selection of accommodations in Penedo, just a few kilometers down the road.
