This neoclassical style palace is a house where the writer Jorge Amado lived. Of special interest is the writer’s room in Casa de Cultura Jorge Amado, where the editions of his work, old photos and personal items are on display. Built by the writer’s father in 1928, the mansion occupies an area of 600 sq m (6458 sq ft), is five meters high, has antique floor tiles and English rosewood at the porch. In front of the house, you can take pictures a lookalike of the writer. • I found the place well organized, able to know the story of Jorge Amado was a great learning experience. But signaling the cards lack toilets.

  • The building was one of the addresses of jorge amado in ilhéus. Part of the House has been mischaracterized and unfortunately, poorly cared for. We were very well attended by a guide, super attentive and made us want to know more about the life of the author. There is a bookshop on site and the acquis is very small. Deserve special attention, such importance of jorge amado.

  • The place is interesting to get into. Has a few things to see and do not have full access to the House. Besides is charged $5 per person to get in and the place is kept with public money, that is, we pay twice.

  • Great place to meet in Ilhéus, where tourist options are extremely restricted. The tour is a little boring because of the lack of preparation of guides, but the place is fascinating and is mandatory visitation point for tourists.

  • Very nice view of this writer's lifestyle so awesome and know a little of your intimacy. The garden is beautiful. Is well maintained and has amazing pieces, like the Orishas. Loved the tour.

  • The House is poorly preserved, precarious structure to receive tourists, impression of abandonment by those responsible for Administration of the historical and cultural heritage

Where to stay in Ilheus

Thanks to the city's well-developed tourist infrastructure, you won't have any trouble finding accommodations in Ilheus. For a luxurious experience, stay in a resort or eco-lodge on the seashore, where you'll have easy beach access and a relaxed atmosphere. You can experience beach proximity at a fraction of the price by booking a private bungalow or beachside cabin. There's no better way to get a feel for the city's history, however, then by looking away from the center and staying on a cacao plantation in the nearby hills, where you'll be able to see how the "chocolate tree" is grown and harvested.
