Praia Da Feiticeira, Ilhabela

3.9
#6 of 39 in Beaches in Ilhabela
Beach Nature / Park
The beautiful and exclusive Praia Da Feiticeira is an ideal place for you to relax, with its small, warm pools in the shade of coconut palms. Completely isolated but for an entrance through a stone walkway, there are no facilities on the beach, which adds to its unspoiled tranquility. With only 250 m (820 ft) of sand, the beach is small but with so few visitors you will find it cozy rather than cramped. The rocks at the side of the beach are a hot spot for fishing, and, while waiting for a bite, you can look out over the azure-blue ocean and see the lush forests of the mainland in the distance. Dominating the left end of the beach, you will see the former Fazenda São Mathias. According to legend, the original owner amassed a great fortune that he had his slaves hide before killing them all. When he started going mad, local fisherman branded him a “feiticeira”--sorcerer--and he eventually disappeared, leaving behind a namesake for the beach and the mystery of buried treasure. • Beautiful location. A small waterfall challenges at sea. It is more a foot private beach. There's no structure to the tourist.

Where to stay in Ilhabela

With much of the island protected against overdevelopment, all but a handful of accommodations are found on the western coast of Ilhabela. There, upscale hotels with plenty of private grounds lie to the north or south of the main town. Look in the town itself for the main budget-friendly options, with characterful pousadas (guesthouses) the most popular option. The island can be pretty busy during peak seasons (especially summer, December to March), so booking ahead is essential. With the mainland so close, you can easily hop on the ferry back to Sao Sebastiao to sleep.
