Preta Beach (Lazareto), Ilha Grande
(3.8/5 based on 650+ reviews on the web)
Preta Beach (Lazareto) is a rare place indeed with its black sand, which is not something you come across too often. The warm and calm waters are ideal for swimming and the abundance of trees create a nice respite from the sun. A river running through it forms a unique combination and the natural pools of water provide an alternative to swimming in the sea. Nearby, you can visit the ruins of Lazaretto, which functioned as a prison and a quarantine for sick people during colonial Brazil. Preta Beach (Lazareto) is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our international travel planner, Ilha Grande Edition.

  • Very close to the village of Abraham. There are several recesses and small bahias to swim. Many Stones in the sand. Beside the Lazareto (which is closed and in very bad conservation conditions) there's a river of cold waters. Good to equalize with the salt water of the sea.

  • Natural sand beach, calm waters, very good to go with children. Has an explanatory panel on the color of the sand that is worth reading.

  • I went to the Black Beach the day I got here, because it was quiet and to get you are required to make that walk of recognition of the island's commercial centre, quiet beach with black sand which gives its name to the beach, several people resting and reading the sandbar that forms alongside the Creek that empties into the sea, you can take a swim in the sea and after a dip in fresh water very good, just take whatever you eat or drink because it has no trade around because it is within the State Park.
