Pico do Papagaio, Ilha Grande

4.8
Hike through the rainforest and up to Pico do Papagaio, the highest point on the island. Take some light food, plenty of water, and hire a local guide to take you up this steep climb. The trek can take several hours to complete, and you do need an experienced local to show you the way through the thick Brazilian jungle. This trail is worth every drop of sweat, because at the top (which looks like a parrot, hence the peak’s name) you are rewarded with a view of the entire island and the town below . Pick a clear day to avoid clouds obscuring the final vista. Lucky visitors also get to see howler monkeys, the region’s noisiest residents. With our custom trip planner, Ilha Grande attractions like Pico do Papagaio can be center stage of your vacation plans, and you can find out about other attractions like it, unlike it, near it, and miles away.

  • offers an incredible view but it takes effort and dedication. There is a company that organizes the night walk, with great guides and equipment necessary to get to pico do papagaio, the walk starts at 2:00 in the morning and lasts approximately 3:00 to get to the top, for being a difficult path is steep, in dense forest, but for those who have inte enjoy this unique experience in interest is very worthwhile, we accompany the sunrise from on high, is about 1:00 upstairs, and it takes a 3:00 to come back. who likes adventures, recommend!

  • We went up at 9 A.M., my wife and I, without Guide. It's not an easy track for being pretty much strong rise. Take plenty of water and snacks. IDA, back and the contemplation of visual will last around 8:00. Did the rise in 3:00, no running and taking lots of photos along the way. It is a beautiful landscape from start to finish. The trail is well marked by the constant passage of people. On the site "wikiloc" has some files of the course to download in various formats. We use one of these files ".KML" in app "map" and was 100 mehmedovic% correct. Is a good option to increase security and not get lost. Reaching the Peak Rock: taking the path of right, has the classic look; following through on the left, you reach the top. In our case, we leave with Sun and we got to the top with many clouds. We're going to have to come back next year. If you're up at night, or morning, hire a guide.

  • Stay on Ilha Grande, Rio de Janeiro. The Pico do Papagaio is the name, seen from afar. The trail requires strength but is worth a lot to get at the top because the view and an unrivaled, only.

  • Parrot Peak was an amazing place to hike while in Ilha Grande. It took around 4 hours to reach the summit, but the views during and after sunset were well worth it.
  • I've been twice at the top. It gives you an Amazing 360 degree view of the Island. A correction, due to the resemblance of a parrot BEAK the real name is PEDRA DO BICO DO PAPAGAIO (PARROT BEAK) not PEAK! aprox. 1.000 mts high.
  • Five stars for the amazing view you get on the top. You must know this is not an easy hike, it demands strength due to the steep natural stairs formed by trees that take you up 1000 meters! Take enough water and food, plan ahead if you want to make it up there so to be back before dark. It is very easy to get lost at night in the mountain, take a flashlight always just in case. In case of any doubts ask the local guides for information
  • Great trail, takes around 3h30 to go up, 3h down. Great 360° view of the island at the end !
  • Beautiful must see

Where to stay in Ilha Grande

The village area by the dock is home to the largest number of Ilha Grande's accommodations, with options varying from family-run, rustic pousadas (guesthouses) to mid-range and luxury hotels. Elsewhere on the island, you'll find upscale resorts offering wide-ranging amenities, such as swimming pools, bars, restaurants, and spas. Though most lodgings lie along the coast, a couple of options farther inland situate you in scenic parts of the jungle interior. Alternatively, head back to the mainland to sleep at one of the simple hotels in Conceicao de Jacarei, the destination of the Ilha Grande ferry service.
