Lopes Mendes Beach, Ilha Grande

(4.7/5 based on 4,200+ reviews on the web)
On an island world-famous for over 100 beaches, Lopes Mendes Beach stands out with its 3 km (1.9 mi) of white fine sand. The water remains quite shallow a long way out, providing visitors with nearly perfect surfing conditions. Frequently ranked among the world’ most stunning beaches, this long strip of warm sand can be reached from the main settlement on the island by a short boat ride, followed by a hike up a relatively steep footpath. Walk through the lush island vegetation to get some exercise and prepare yourself for a refreshing dip in the crystalline waters. Before hitting the trail, remember to bring lots of water, bug repellent, and a good flashlight, as darkness descends rapidly under the thick forest canopy. • To get there you take a schooner of Abraham (Rs 30.00 per person round trip) and in 50 min arrives in palms and beach landing. Here comes a very steep trail, it took 40 minutes and we have seen tiny monkeys in the Woods. There are no bathrooms or restaurants, only kiosks with sandwiches and drinks. For popsicles and a lifeguard. The color of the water is impressive. The waves are gentle. Is not accessible to wheelchair users. Seniors or children will have trouble on the trail. The beaches of palms and landing are also beautiful. We saw a turtle swimming in the beach landing.

  • Excellent experience! We were walking from Vila do Abraão, are 2 1 / 2 hours, by a well marked track, is impossible to miss... only for adventurous... cross the Hill on foot, you should go with proper footwear, first get to Ensenada das palmas, then another small hike until Pouso... there arrive and depart the taxiboat ($R30 per person roundtrip and vueta) of Pouso, about 20 "more walking and you get to this paradise and great beach! It is worth going to visit and spend a day there. It has shade of the trees, the water is turquoise, quite movidito the sea compared to the other beaches of the beautiful island... in the end! Then returned in taxiboat because we were tired... in 20 "already were in the villa again
