Orange Fort Museum, Ilha de Itamaraca
(3.5/5 based on 120+ reviews on the web)
Orange Fort Museum is located on the historic site of Fort Orange, originally built by the early Dutch settlers as part of their coastal defense. Named "Orange" in honor of the House of Orange-Nassau, which then ruled the Netherlands, the fort was heavily contested by the invading Portuguese for a number of years. Finally defeating the Dutch in 1654, the Portuguese settlers re-built, expanded, and re-named the site, subsequently calling it Fort of Santa Cruz. Today, the site houses a historical museum, which tells the story of the early pioneers who fought for dominance in this region. Guided tours of the excavated archeological remains of the fort are available daily. • The historic site of Fort Orange is a great attraction, main tourist attraction of the island of Itamaracá, has an excellent story, vista and architecture, but is now in reform, but that's slow steps and indicating in almost abandonment, unfortunately!

  • Friends, the place is interesting but I'd say that only 20 percent of it in fact today is open, the same is undergoing restoration of IPHAN magnet, so we can only enter up to the lookout point, however it's worth a lot just because the view is beautiful.
