Orange Fort Museum, Ilha de Itamaraca

(3.3/5 based on 130+ reviews on the web)
Orange Fort Museum is located on the historic site of Fort Orange, originally built by the early Dutch settlers as part of their coastal defense. Named "Orange" in honor of the House of Orange-Nassau, which then ruled the Netherlands, the fort was heavily contested by the invading Portuguese for a number of years. Finally defeating the Dutch in 1654, the Portuguese settlers re-built, expanded, and re-named the site, subsequently calling it Fort of Santa Cruz. Today, the site houses a historical museum, which tells the story of the early pioneers who fought for dominance in this region. Guided tours of the excavated archeological remains of the fort are available daily. • THEY'RE NOT on the SCENE, they're going to stress yourself out, full of rubble, the reform seems to be endless, I don't recommend, although free entry all they lose time, but if they're even Crown of this plane, pass by the wreckage of the Fort so to say were not.

  • A large structure left by colonizers and much visited by tourists, but abandoned by public agencies because even with regulatory boards are not respected since everyone climbs the walls causing risks to her own strong and for the regulars in addition to car parking on site.

  • Strong old not well maintained. There is nothing to do except the top that overlooks the sea waste of time
