  • Built between 1761 and 1766, tumbled by IPHAN and restored from 2004, being delivered to the community of Goiás in October 2014. Its thick walls and dark environment, in addition to the equipment used for torture and punishment, serve so don't forget never the injustices already committed by man.

  • The Museum is small and there is no guide, but it's worth a visit for the historical value of the place: the museum works in the old House Chamber and Jail. Admission is free. Being in the historic center, reserve about half an hour to meet.

  • Downstairs, an old jail. Upstairs, the former Chamber of Deputies. Beautiful Museum, with items that are very valuable to our culture!

Where to stay in Goias

While obviously lacking the colonial-era elegance of the town's main architectural highlights, accommodations in Goias are an attractive bunch. Colorful, squat hotels and guesthouses, family-run and neatly maintained, remain the most popular option. Dotted around town here and there, they offer a good level of service and a comfortable room for a decent price. Prices rise with proximity to the World Heritage-listed town center, where the location offers characterful views from your room. If on a budget, stay farther from the center: it's all pretty close together anyway, and the charming rusticity extends well past the historical core.
