(4.2/5 based on 130+ reviews on the web)
Long ago, Nossa Senhora de Assuncao Fort was used to prevent intrusions from invaders, and today it houses the headquarters of the 10th Military Region of the Brazilian Army. Located near the central market and opposite the Fortaleza Cathedral, this is a place you can go to learn about the history. It was erected by the Dutch in 1649 and then taken by the Portuguese in 1654 and renamed. At this very spot is where the small village of Fortaleza was born, and now it’s among the five largest cities of Brazil. • The visitor is guided and is perfect for those who like to know the history of the site. Featured in the cell where she was trapped in the grandmother of José de Alencar and also served as a prison during the dictatorship. It's creepy.

  • Great for photos or romantic sunset, hotspot, the edge has to stop by the famous fortress where it all began.

  • A visit to the Fort is a reunion with the history of the fortress and its important characters with Bárbara de Alencar. Is located in the city centre and is a good attraction.
