(4.2/5 based on 130 reviews on the web)
Long ago, Nossa Senhora de Assuncao Fort was used to prevent intrusions from invaders, and today it houses the headquarters of the 10th Military Region of the Brazilian Army. Located near the central market and opposite the Fortaleza Cathedral, this is a place you can go to learn about the history. It was erected by the Dutch in 1649 and then taken by the Portuguese in 1654 and renamed. At this very spot is where the small village of Fortaleza was born, and now it’s among the five largest cities of Brazil. • If you are in the central market, it costs nothing to cross the street to get some shots. But don't expect much.

  • CFE reported our tour guide, the origin of the name of the city of Fortaleza, is closely related to this centuries-old fortification, since the settlement that grew up along the walls of the Fort of our Lady of the assumption. Over time, remained only Fortress, as it was called by the population. Called the fortress of our Lady of Assumption, or the ancient Fort Schoonenborch, the space open to visitation is limited, as most of the fortress is today occupied by Army installations. Some external images of the fortress of our Lady of Asuncion. Little, very little. Outside, from the side, you can see part of the sea, in the same way as in the 17; the fortresses were built in areas that allowed greater visibility, to see the enemy with ease; Some ancient cannons are exposed.  The statue you see in the yard is named after Martins Soares Moreno, one of the heroes of the Ceará. It is interesting, those who like to know the history of the city, it's worth it! The Fort is situated just a few metres away from the Cathedral of Fortaleza and the Central market. It was a quick visit by City tour, but it's worth it for history and details that you can hear the Guide!
