Nossa Senhora de Assuncao Fort, Fortaleza

4.2
Long ago, Nossa Senhora de Assuncao Fort was used to prevent intrusions from invaders, and today it houses the headquarters of the 10th Military Region of the Brazilian Army. Located near the central market and opposite the Fortaleza Cathedral, this is a place you can go to learn about the history. It was erected by the Dutch in 1649 and then taken by the Portuguese in 1654 and renamed. At this very spot is where the small village of Fortaleza was born, and now it’s among the five largest cities of Brazil. Visit the prison where Bárbara de Alencar was incarcerated and take a guided tour to hear all of the interesting stories. Although it is a (wonderful) Army barracks, is wisely open to public visitation; and is excellent for those interested in the history of Brazil: account and exposes in detail not only the origin of the story of religiosity that involves this Santa and your relationship with the city, as the importance given to her by the people of Fortress over the centuries-the original image of Santa est to exposed and well protected in one of the sides of the hallway that leads to the ancient Dungeon of the fortress; and also tells in detail a part of the life story of the mother of the writer José de Alencar (Bárbara de Alencar), very much worshipped by them; and there's a small Museum (with amazing) telling the life story of thoroughly Brigadier Saad, one of the heroes of the Brazilian Imperial Army, whose Sphinx will welcome visitors at the entrance of the fortress. The site is so ready to meet tourists, there are even tour guides provided by specially prepared to accompany visitors for these locations. Very good, really-get a few more minutes of your walk 45 to enrich your culture!

Location of the Fort built by Matthias Beck and rebuilt the background of the engineer Scott Paulet, built on the banks of the Pajeú Brook. The cannon gives clues that the unnamed city of Fortaleza always targeted wrong.

Where to stay in Fortaleza

If you want to focus on the historical attractions in Fortaleza, stay in the city center or a nearby neighborhood for easy access. Far more popular, however, is the coastal neighborhood of Praia de Iracema, where you can immerse yourself in the city's beach, restaurant, and nightlife scene. Any number of hotels line the neighborhood's expansive beachfront. For something a bit quieter, but still a stone's throw from the beach, look east to the coastal neighborhoods of De Lourdes and Praia do Futuro II. Thanks to the growing popularity of Fortaleza tourism, you can find a range of budget hostels throughout the city.
