  • VICTOR MEIRELLES Museum - r. Victor Meirelles 59 Victor Meirelles (1832-1903) was an artist of caterinense, son of a Portuguese immigrant and a Brazilian very poor. From very young is highlighted by its tilt to the drawing and the painting and to them 14 years won a scholarship to the Academy Imperial of fine arts in river of Janeiro. To them 20 years (1853) won the first prize of a contest that was on a trip to Europe. In Italy and France he lived, worked and studied between the years 1853 and 186. He returned to Brazil and became one of the greatest artists of the time. His work "The first mass in Brazil" has been used in banknotes and stamps and is located in the Museum of fine arts of Rio de Janeiro. Died in 1903. The House where works the Museum Victor Meirelleses was where was born and lived the artist. Is a typical house portuguesa-brasilera for purposes of the s. XIX. He was about to be demolished, but in 1946 the Government took over and used it for this purpose. The purpose of the Museum is conserve, investigate and disseminate the life and work of the artist. Display collections of drawings, oil paintings on fabric and watercolours from different stages of his career. Also be performed exhibitions temporary and other demonstrations artistic. | Impossible arrive until the work by the presence of people very little friendly living in the street, so only to half block of the square main

  • Beautiful permanent exhibition. The property itself is a historical testimony of the ancient city of Exile, the provincial capital. It's always worth knowing small museums dedicated to the work of a single artist. We can get a good idea of the trajectory that catapulted provincial painter Victor Meirelles the exponent of the Brazilian Empire. There is also space for artists.

  • A site that was known within my school, with a work of art education, learn a little more about Victor Meirelles and do a rereading of your history and works. A good place in small, but that takes us back to the past, there is a time when our city was still called Exile.

  • Charming and small museum in the historic centre. There is a fixed display of the artist who lived in this House, Victor Meirelles. And from time to time occur fairs and exhibitions of all kinds highlighting local artists.
