Matadeiro beach, Florianopolis
Categories: Beaches, Nature & Parks, Outdoor Activities
Enclosed by lush vegetation and a mountain that shares its name, Matadeiro beach is accessible only on foot but well worth the walk. The 1000 m (0.6 miles) beach is a paradise for nature lovers. With relatively few visitors, it will feel like you have it all to yourself. Surfing and free-diving are popular activities, and a short hike up the hill will lead you to a stunning view. Along one of the many trails you can follow from the beach is a curious rock formation known as the “Matadeiro cave.” Local legend has it that this was once a center of energy. Located in the South of the island, she is isolated from the urban area and totally surrounded by beautiful mountains of native forest. The beach does not have access for cars, so that they must be parked in the vicinity and there is a small way trail walk (well signposted and has already paved, it takes about 5 minutes to be covered) that must be traversed by foot. Is a relatively small beach, with few options of bars and restaurants (there are only 2 and a small trailer), which in the off season, are often closed, so it's nice to bring food and drinks to the visit.show original
