Hercilio Luz Bridge, Florianopolis

Bridge Tourist Spot
Linking the island with the mainland, Hercilio Luz Bridge is one of the largest suspension bridges in the world. The towers that support the bridge rise 74 m (243 ft) above sea level. You may notice slight changes in height as you cross the bridge by car or bus, this is because the truss supporting the roadway is above the roadway itself joining with the cable below and causing slight differences in height along the way. The bridge’s designer, Hercilio Luz, passed away before seeing its completion in 1926.

the bridge's name was originally planned to be “Independence Bridge,” a fitting tribute as all the materials were  brought from the United States. However, the name was changed to pay homage to the bridge’s deceased designer. • Unfortunately this bridge in total reform so you cannot see it right. But it's worth a visit to the Fort.

  • Finally, after years of planning, initiated reforms of the bridge. It is a beautiful building and no doubt, after the completion of repairs, will be a good option. At the moment it is possible to see only the maintenance areas.

  • She really is very pretty, but the amount of money spent on this bridge until today, I could have built two or three bridges lingando the island to the Mainland. We're really a very peaceful people.

Where to stay in Florianopolis

To get a true taste of the city's culture on your trip to Florianopolis, it's best to stay in the historical center on Santa Catarina Island. There you'll find plenty of accommodations--a significantly better selection than on the mainland--ranging from budget guesthouses and hostels to luxury hotels. Many guests, however, choose to take advantage of the island's charming nature by staying away from the city center, in the lakeside district of Lagoa da Conceição. For easy access to the best surf beaches on the island, stay a couple miles farther away at Mole Beach or Barra da Lagoa.
