Hercilio Luz Bridge, Florianopolis

Categories: Bridges, Tourist Spots
Inspirock Rating:
3.8/5 based on 1,500+ reviews on the web
Linking the island with the mainland, Hercilio Luz Bridge is one of the largest suspension bridges in the world. The towers that support the bridge rise 74 m (243 ft) above sea level. You may notice slight changes in height as you cross the bridge by car or bus, this is because the truss supporting the roadway is above the roadway itself joining with the cable below and causing slight differences in height along the way. The bridge’s designer, Hercilio Luz, passed away before seeing its completion in 1926.

the bridge's name was originally planned to be “Independence Bridge,” a fitting tribute as all the materials were  brought from the United States. However, the name was changed to pay homage to the bridge’s deceased designer. • She has been the only link between the Mainland and the island. Today follows tight, charm and calling attention of tourists for its beauty. The location is also a privilege, because who arrives in town by land or by air, soon you can see how beautiful she is.
