Explore the history of Fernando de Noronha, an archipelago of 21 islands, at Fernando de Noronha Memorial, featuring an exhibition of images created by local students, artists, scientists, and historians. These images depict the history of the archipelago, highlighting its geologic evolution since the time of the most recent volcanic activity, over 1 million years ago. The site also contains more than 600 photographs, taken over a period of 40 years by historian Marieta Borges. Her photographs, along with a number of maps and other documents, tell the story of these islands in the modern times, which included several foreign occupations and the presence of American troops during World War II. Enjoy the stroll through the historical part and enter the Museum! Well organized, telling the story with pictures and pieces of Fernando de Noronha. I highly recommend!

Not just for being a magnificent archipelago, but when you go to any place, you should know a bit of local history, how did and for that were used a few things and places. Fernando de Noronha has historical importance, both for strategic world war as island of exploration as it was discovered, as it belonged to the Portuguese and as ended up at the Government of Pernambuco, being that you're so close to the Rio Grande. All this and more things intrigue you? So know this place and get to know the entire story for you!

Beautiful beach. High waves, heavy seas, but a beautiful place to take several pictures perfect. Not counting the birds giving your dives to catch the fish.

Where to stay in Fernando de Noronha

The bad news is that, if you're on a budget, your trip to Fernando de Noronha might be starting to look a whole lot more expensive than you'd planned. Accommodations on the remote archipelago are understandably expensive, as all food and supplies have to be specially shipped in. All lodgings are on the largest island, Fernando de Noronha, which is the only one permanently inhabited in the archipelago. The majority of options consist of guesthouses and boutique hotels concentrated in the center of Vila dos Remédios, the island's town. However, look a bit farther outside of town and you can find some excellent eco-resorts and beachside accommodations.
