Atalaia Beach, Fernando de Noronha

4.5
#6 of 21 in Parks in Fernando de Noronha
Part of a national marine park, Atalaia Beach invites travelers to explore its aquarium-like shallow natural pool, the largest one on the island. Nestled in a cove protected by a reef, the beach features a narrow strip of land covered with soft golden sand and round black stones, evidence of the island's volcanic history. Though snorkeling in the 40 cm (16 in) deep pool at low tide is ideal for beginners, experienced snorkelers may find it not stimulating enough. • You need to schedule the visit in advance at the ICMBIO. I suggest that is the first thing to be done leaving the airport, because the visit is made only at low tide. Are 8 groups of 16 people per day can do two-long and short trails. For long it is necessary to pay a fee and hire Guide. For short, you don't need a guide. Only the Marine Park card is necessary. The entrance of the trail is at the end of the village of Thirty. There we received guidance from marine park biologists on the trail and the procedures for diving. There too one can rent mask, snorkel and collect. The rules for scuba diving are restricted. Cannot use sunscreen (I suggest UV shirt), is mandatory the use of the life vest during the dive, you can't step on the bottom of the pool and not use fins, cannot move and not touch anything during the dive. We have 30 minutes to descend the trail (from tennis is better!), 30 minutes to dive in and 30 minutes to return the trail. Take water! The dip doesn't disappoint-lemon shark pups, Octopus, sand dabs, shoals of fish around rocks, corals ... The 30 minutes faster from the trip!

  • I put horrible because I have no other way to tell my experience. In fact not even able to go to this beach! In addition to paying the entrance fee to the island, 68 Reals per day and per person and have to pay 200 Reales for admission to the National Park, there are 5 places: Capim Azu, Pedra Alta, Abreus, Atalaia and Morro San Jose, to which you have inscribirpara to enter the list is generally 8 to 10 days, so it is almost impossible to know. In addition, if you are one of the privileged 40 entering these places per day, only you have right to snorkel for 35 minutes! then, you throw!

  • There are two trails, walking up to the natural pools of the Watchtower and lasts 40 minutes and the long trail, q passes through other pools and ends near the port, q takes 3 to 4 hours depending on the pace. Both are beautiful, but the look of long's more impactful.

  • Atalaia beach is gorgeous, with a short, but with a fresh marine life amazing. We saw several fish, crabs, fish and even a snake Moray (but don't have to be afraid ", most people plunges and if u don't mess with them, nothing will happen). A very nice experience.

  • Best place to see the fauna de Noronha and maybe even a baby shark. It is necessary to schedule the ICMBio. It is prohibited to use sunscreen. The trick is to go from tennis to trail that lasts a few minutes and 20/30 bring sunscreen to pass on back.

Where to stay in Fernando de Noronha

The bad news is that, if you're on a budget, your trip to Fernando de Noronha might be starting to look a whole lot more expensive than you'd planned. Accommodations on the remote archipelago are understandably expensive, as all food and supplies have to be specially shipped in. All lodgings are on the largest island, Fernando de Noronha, which is the only one permanently inhabited in the archipelago. The majority of options consist of guesthouses and boutique hotels concentrated in the center of Vila dos Remédios, the island's town. However, look a bit farther outside of town and you can find some excellent eco-resorts and beachside accommodations.
