Casa da Glória, Diamantina

4.4
Built at the end of the 18th century, Casa da Glória is a beautiful building with a rich history. The most striking feature is the blue bridge, built some time after 1867, in order to connect the building with the house across the street. Over the centuries the building has served as a private residence, the home of both politicians and bishops, and as an orphanage run by nuns. Today the building is owned by the Institute of Geosciences of the Federal University of Minas Gerais, and contains a small geological exhibition, as well as some information about the building's history. Where to stay in Diamantina

Diamantina offers a range of rustic, charatcer-filled accommodations, in keeping with the town's history and chief attractions. Find atmospheric pousadas (guesthouses) dotted around the cobbled streets of the old town, occupying formerly residential streets, with luxury and mid-range options also available. A few more modern standalone hotels have been built in recent years, located away from the historic center and catering to budget-conscious travelers. If you're looking for quick access to the surrounding nature, consider staying at one of the motels and pousadas along Av. Jao Antunes de Oliveira, located in the northwest of town.
