Passeio Publico, Curitiba

Nature / Park
Built on top of a lagoon, Passeio Publico was considered an important urban development in the 18th century because it replaced a body of water that was a hotbed of disease due to its insect population.  Master Valentim designed the park with passion and care. The stunning Roccoco gates still stand at the park’s entrance while much of the interior's original plan is still intact. Two fountains take center stage: Fonte dos Amores and Fonte dos Jacarés. Valentim also added a number of bronze sculptures mimicking nature throughout the park. In the 19th century, Auguste François Marie Glaziou was commissioned to give the park an update. However, he opted to keep the statuary and simply converted the restrictive design of the flora into a more natural arrangement for the Romantic era. It was great in the past, now that you've had your size diminished by urban planners, municipal Center irresponsible solicitation on the outskirts, not a lot of animals to see, has a fetid Lake and ugly ... Horrible!

The promenade is a great option for those who want a quiet place without leaving the Center. The Park has several interesting attractions, ranging from landscaping to breeding grounds for various birds. How is located in the city centre, the promenade attracts a lot of different people. Families, couples or hunters of Pokémon Go! I saw many. Good Park to the curitibanos.

Great place for a walk or even to get some fresh air in the midst of the city center. Offers cycling track and how was the first Park and first city's Zoo there is still some animals, especially birds such as macaws that you can see, there's a public gym and outdoor chess tables where in the evening you can see several elderly people playing. There is a police station in the Park and it makes you feel safer.

Love the place, love the animals. One of my favorites places in city center where I can enjoy a nice sunny day.

It's a good place to go for a walk or run. There are many indigenous species on show there, most of them rescued from illegal export. There is also the possibility of going for a pedalo ride or have a churrasco near the water. Great place for an afternoon!

Not really safe at night but is a nice park.

Where to stay in Curitiba

Wherever you choose to stay in the city, you'll be able to get from place to place on your Curitiba itinerary in a breeze, thanks to the rapid bus transit system. Most higher-end hotels sit in or very close to the city center, especially along the pedestrianized main street of Rua XV de Novembro. Stay here if you want quick access to the best shopping strip in town. You can look slightly out of the center, in the neighborhoods of Batel and Seminário, to mingle with the city's posh crowd. Curitiba's continuing growth in popularity with younger tourists means you can now find any number of budget youth hostels, mainly concentrated in the center and inner suburbs.
