Marumbi State park, Curitiba

4.7
#4 of 21 in Wildlife in State of Parana
Take a train ride though the rainforest to Marumbi State park, home to several specimens of centuries-old native trees, like ipês, araucárias, and jacarandás. This park is often described as a "hiker's delight." An experienced guide can lead you through this lush area to cascading waterfalls and rivers teeming with a diverse plant and animal life, all the way up to Pico Marumbi, a towering peak over 1,500 meters (5,000 ft) high and offering a panoramic view of the entire region. These trails are steep and can take several hours to traverse, so comfortable shoes are a must. Bring lots of water and a light snack, and spend a day in a verdant region rich with flora and fauna found only in this part of the world. Marumbi State park is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our custom trip planner, Curitiba Edition.

  • walking through streets of old pavement, florida square, historic buildings and picturesque restaurants and surrounded by lovely hills of Marumbi: Morretes!

  • I went down to Morretes and van, which unfortunately on the day was a driver very grumpy. We arrived in Morretes and walked around town it is very pleasant for the climate and environment of inner city, where you still hear birds and several restaurants along the Riverside. Choose one after a stroll along the banks of the River (limited tour without other options) and we went to lunch the barreado, where we were well attended in spite of expecting something more of the dish, I didn't see anything too much beyond the time that tell what it takes to get ready. The ascent was by train, that deveriaa offer better comfort to its customers since at least the day it took 04:15 min to arrive. On the way we passed by several tunnels and view that magnifies the exuberant nature, but we also saw the abandonment of the stations that should be preserved for even a matter of history. I liked it but I wouldn't do it again.

Where to stay in Curitiba

Wherever you choose to stay in the city, you'll be able to get from place to place on your Curitiba itinerary in a breeze, thanks to the rapid bus transit system. Most higher-end hotels sit in or very close to the city center, especially along the pedestrianized main street of Rua XV de Novembro. Stay here if you want quick access to the best shopping strip in town. You can look slightly out of the center, in the neighborhoods of Batel and Seminário, to mingle with the city's posh crowd. Curitiba's continuing growth in popularity with younger tourists means you can now find any number of budget youth hostels, mainly concentrated in the center and inner suburbs.
