Jardim Botanico de Curitiba, Curitiba
(4.7/5 based on 17,000+ reviews on the web)
As you pass through the entryway gates at Jardim Botanico de Curitiba, you'll see the unmistakable Art Nouveau greenhouse that resembles the 19th-century Crystal Palace in London. Fountains, ponds, and waterfalls intersperse the gardens planted in French style. Tropical plants, many of which are rare, reside in the greenhouse alongside palms and native plants. The Botanic Museum provides a collection of native flora and botanical species from the Atlantic forests, which attracts researchers from all around the world.

Strolling along the paths brings you past native forest trees, gardens with native flowers, and 114 sculptural works, like "A Mãe" (The Mother). The Museum of Franz Krajcberg behind the greenhouse features the artist's collection and other artistic works including sculptures, art, and reliefs, as well as publications, photographs, educational materials, and videos. Walking across the wooden bridge towards the other side of the park brings you to the large herbarium in the Botanical Museum housed in a timber building. Surrounding the building is a lake, a library, an auditorium, a theater, an exposition area, tennis courts, and a cycling track, to name a few of the attractions. Children especially love to peer into the pond out front to identify carp, herons, teal, and turtles. • Great area, used poorly with mainly boring, uninspiring, unnatural landscaping. At the side of the main area there's a nice, much more natural space with a pond and good diversity of flora and fauna.
  • I went to the botanical gardens on my first day in Curitibia. It was a grand success. As a European, I was awestruck by how different the flora and fauna are in Brazil. In the gardens there are turtles and a large amount of birds that are different than what I was used to. The building itself is beautiful and it houses a large variety of plants. A must-see for every tourist in Curitiba! It's also close to the UFPR and easy to combine with a visit to the university.
  • One of the major attractions in Curitiba. It's more like a modern Botanical Garden and looks more as a Park, so don't expect lots of different plants and flowers. Nevertheless it's worth the visit! Just be aware that it can get pretty crowded on weekends and holidays.
  • In my eyes the best attaction of the city. Nice big garden and very well designed and maintained greenhouse.
  • Amazing. ..I have a lot of memory in there...I used to live across the street from botanical garden. .my daughter's used to play around with our dog...unforgettable. ..
