Museu do Rio, Cuiaba

1.9
#4 of 20 in Museums in Cuiaba
History Museum Museum
Situated right by the renovated riverside port area, Museu do Rio features displays and exhibits of the changing face of the river ecosystem, and a small collection of local Pantanal fish. Erected in 1899, this simple rectangular building once served as the city’s fish market. Today the museum/aquarium is also the center of art and culture for this entire region. The idea here is to preserve the history of the capital of Mato Grosso through photographs, crafts, works of religious art, and models depicting the development of this urban center from colonial times to the present. Make this a brief stop on your tour of the city, and drop by the popular restaurant, conveniently located inside the building. Plan your visit to Museu do Rio and a wealth of other attractions, well-known and undiscovered, using our Cuiaba trip generator.

Where to stay in Cuiaba

As a busy state capital and a major hub of commerce, Cuiaba provides a good selection of mostly mid-range hotels catering to budget visitors. Truly luxurious hotels are a rarity here, but you can choose from many decent establishments offering clean, bright rooms. Look for accommodations near downtown to stay close to the best shopping, dining, and entertainment options. For a more authentic visit, check out the city's pousadas (guesthouses), which often occupy one or more floors inside restored historical buildings.

  • Simple site, with regionalíssimo restaurant, in your interior, which features a buffet style cuisine of Mato Grosso Panel. Well worth meeting and has an excellent cost-benefit ratio.
