Estrada Parque do Pantanal, Corumba

4.3
#1 of 14 in Things to do in Corumba
Cutting across the vast, tropical wetlands of the Pantanal, Estrada Parque do Pantanal crosses more than 200 bridges, and includes a ferry ride across the Paraguay River. Unlike the dense foliage of the Amazon, the open expanses of wetland are perfect for spotting the abundant local fauna. The ecosystem of the Pantanal is extraordinarily diverse, with around 1,000 species of bird alone. Six observation points along the road provide information about the wildlife of the region, and many roadside restaurants, inns, and ranches provide respite for the weary traveller. Certainly a unique ride. And, full of challenges, because a part of the way is to cross a swamp of color blurred the horse. It's a fun ride, a little tiring, but beautiful and Nice, especially because almost the entire route is done on horseback.

I attended a 23 km race by Park Road. I would have liked to have seen more animals, but the contact with nature was rewarding.

Already at the entrance of the Park Road found a Jabiru. The road is good, however, recommend trip to Porto da Manga (have more animals to see), because after taking the ferry to cross, the environment is just nature even, no luck to see any animal. Car ferry price: R $50,

Where to stay in Corumba

The main grid of side streets that lies just south of the Paraguay river provides Corumba with its greatest range of accommodations. Here, choose from hotels both simple and upmarket, with many rooms offering views of the water and the wetlands beyond. Move south of this area for the town's budget options, where hostels and pousadas (guesthouses) cater to those wishing to spend most of their time exploring the wetlands. For lower cost lodgings and a view of the wetlands, take a look along Avenida Rio Branco, the main strip heading east out of the town center, nestled up to the river.
