Locomotiva, Conservatoria

(3.2/5 based on 380+ reviews on the web)
A beloved symbol of Conservatória’s history, you will find Locomotiva at the entrance of the city. Between 1920 and 1935, it pulled the passenger and freight wagons between Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais, before being replaced by the automobile. Up close, you can admire its mechanisms, which were highly advanced for the times. Among its most famous passengers were Joubert Cortines and José Borges de Freitas, musician brothers who today are considered icons of the city’s musical culture. Saved from the scrapheap, restored and repainted, Locomotiva made its final journey, rolling into Conservatória to great fanfare and a ballad, written and sung by José Borges for the occasion. Put Locomotiva on your schedule, and learn what else deserves a visit by using our Conservatoria trip itinerary maker.
