Chapada dos Guimaraes National Park, Chapada dos Guimaraes

#1 of 54 in Parks in State of Mato Grosso
Chapada is a Brazilian word that means a region of steep cliffs, usually at the edge of a plateau, and it is for these geological formations that Chapada dos Guimaraes National Park is named. With so many of these red, rock formations, panoramic vistas and cascading waterfalls abound. As you explore the park, you will find the dense rain forest gives way suddenly to Cerrado--vast tropical savanna--, and vice versa, like stepping into another world. Explore the park's cave systems, stand at the geographical center of South America, visit the brilliant blue lake which gets its color from microscopic bacteria, or simply enjoy the various flora and fauna, including tropical birds such as macaws and king vultures. A visit to Chapada dos Guimaraes National Park represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Chapada dos Guimaraes holiday site to plot your vacation.

  • Without guide not allowed (except Véu da Noiva). For each tour, our guide took 50 R$ (€12.50). We have the "Cachoeiras" tours in the National Park and "Casa das Pedras" made. A National Park should have guarded/monitors are, but look for a few waterfalls you'd need no guide especially since you are not really can be. The tour "Cachoeiras" took less than 4 hours and consisted of 6 small waterfalls where you could even swim. "Casa das Pedras" Cuiabá is actually only a few beautiful looks down from the Chapada. Took about an hour. Those who know Brazil, know that there are such places with waterfalls and views of beautiful rock formations everywhere (E.g. Cambará do Sul, RS and Vila Velha near the city of Ponta Grossa, PR). They're even free or cheaper.

  • The place is amazing, there are many waterfalls and viewpoints, however not all accessible, even on guided tours (guides accredited by the ICMBio). The circuit of waterfalls walk requires good physical conditioning and disposal, although the guides speak who is accessible to virtually all public/ages. Bring lunch and water is essential.

  • We visited two waterfalls and two viewpoints and were very impressed with some beautiful scenery. The birding in the area was also really good.  more »
  • Some stunning views and picturesque waterfalls. Unfortunately a few of the best spots have been 'privatised' and are no longer open to the public, much to the disgust of the locals.
  • One of the best adventures and connection with nature from the center-east stat of Brazil!
  • Linda
  • An astonishing environment but with poor park management.
  • amazing
