Chapada dos Guimaraes National Park, Chapada dos Guimaraes
(4.5/5 based on 850+ reviews on the web)
Chapada is a Brazilian word that means a region of steep cliffs, usually at the edge of a plateau, and it is for these geological formations that Chapada dos Guimaraes National Park is named. With so many of these red, rock formations, panoramic vistas and cascading waterfalls abound. As you explore the park, you will find the dense rain forest gives way suddenly to Cerrado--vast tropical savanna--, and vice versa, like stepping into another world. Explore the park's cave systems, stand at the geographical center of South America, visit the brilliant blue lake which gets its color from microscopic bacteria, or simply enjoy the various flora and fauna, including tropical birds such as macaws and king vultures. Put Chapada dos Guimaraes National Park on your schedule, and learn what else deserves a visit by using our Chapada dos Guimaraes travel itinerary maker.
