Sao Pellegrino Church, Caxias Do Sul

Aldo Locatelli is responsible for the vivid frescoes that cover Sao Pellegrino Church's walls and ceilings. Locatelli's paintings are what give the church its reputation as the most beautiful in the city. Along with the murals, you’ll also see a pair of bronze doors designed by Augusto Murer that are spectacular in their own right. They depict the story of the Italian immigration to Brazil sculpted in metal. Another homage to Italy is the replica Pieta on display.  Make Sao Pellegrino Church a centerpiece of your Caxias Do Sul vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Caxias Do Sul trip maker app .

  • The Church is beautiful, rich in detail and the service was great. Worth the ticket and if you close the time stay at mass.

  • The Church is very beautiful and is well preserved. Worth knowing, as historical or religious monument.

  • Impossible not to be charmed by the paintings inside the Church, each more beautiful than the other. It also has a replica of the statue of the Pietà, famous sculpture of Michelangelo.

  • Very traditional place in Caxias do Sul. Every tourist has to come here !
  • Beautiful church
  • Beautiful church, from outside may not say much, but to enter and see the frescoes painted on the walls and ceiling, you stay admiring it for a good time. Also I caught my attention the doors, made in iron but worked with animal shapes. If these in Caxias, is worth a visit to this church.

  • Aesthetic experience and wonderful mystique. The Church is also a work of art. All your interior is painted by the Italian artist Aldo Locatelli (the entire ceiling of the Church, the front and sides). Tells the story that it took him 10 years to paint the Church and died before finalizing (intoxicated by the ink). The fact is that your work is divine! Passing by Caxias do sul, it is worth visiting this masterpiece.

  • I found the place beautiful, looks like a work of art! Both on the outside as inside. I've never seen a door of this church type, it sure was what impressed me the most.
