(3/5 based on 160+ reviews on the web)
Located at one end of Julio de Castilhos Avenue, Monumento Nacional ao Imigrante, is a tribute to the immigrants who have played a crucial role in the settlement and formation of the nation of Brazil. Although originally built to honor specifically the Italian immigrants that settled in the Rio Grande do Sul region, the monument was appropriated in 1953 to commemorate immigrants of all ethnicities, throughout the entirety of Brazil. Underneath the obelisk, and bronze figures of a man and women, holding their child, you will find a marble crypt that is used as a cultural exhibition space.
