Japones Island, Cabo Frio

3.4
#1 of 10 in Nature in Cabo Frio
Known to be a quiet nook in a busy area, Japones Island is a small resort with thatched food kiosks where you can sit down for a peaceful meal. Fresh fish is caught and served up in the traditional style here. The water along the beach is quite shallow and calm, making it a popular spot for families with little children. Farther up the coast you can find deeper waters for swimming and scuba diving. Boats can also be rented for sightseeing along the Itajuru Channel. Nearby trails attract ecotourists and casual hikers, as well as locals picnicking in secluded spots along the shore. When the tide is low, you can take a walk straight across the channel, from the island to the mainland. • This island is in the middle of the channel, you can access it on foot with the water in the waist and moving a couple hundred yards, or pay 5 reais and cross over in a canoe. Parking costs 10 reais. The island itself is beautiful but it's no big deal, the sand is white and super thin, enough vegetation and there are practically no waves, the beach is pretty smooth, shallow and without wave, being good for children. Great place for a picnic carrying beach chairs and cooler, stand up paddle and enjoy with young children. There is some areas delimited by "floating cables" that prevent unsuspecting vessels and jetskis way the tranquility of the place. If you do not fits that profile, get out because it's a waste of time.

  • Wonderful place, family environment. You pay to Park Road and your car is stored. You can stay close to restaurants where they offer great food, the stew is wonderful. Or you can cross the island, either by boat or swimming even if the tide is low. Super indico.
