Inhotim, Brumadinho

(4.8/5 based on 6,500+ reviews on the web)
The fantastic Inhotim museum of contemporary art infused into the botanical garden setting. Exhibits explore the spatial relationships between landscape and art by allowing artists to and exhibit their work in the unique conditions of forest landscapes, gardens, and rural environments. The collections include 500 pieces by more than 100 artists from 30 different countries. The main focus is on contemporary arts produced from the 1960s to the present day, including sculpture, installations, paintings, drawings, photography, films, and video. Two tours include the free thematic tour with two focuses on environmental and botanical aspects, and the other focuses on art. The sightseeing tour covers many areas within the park with a focus on landscaping and the placement of outdoor art exhibits. • This art park might be far from the popular tourist destinations of Brazil, but it's definitely one of the places you should not miss. Awesome art installations and exhibition halls, and a beautiful p...  more »
  • Site that I never imagined existed. Contemporary art in the middle of a large garden or place, very well maintained and visually beautiful. Like all contemporary art, there are some works without much direction and other very interesting. The site is very large and you will walk a lot. It is possible to hire cars opened, that function as bus, a bit pricey, but worth it. There are some locations that are trails (in the Woods, without pavement), but is part of the "art". In the middle of the trail are modern works, producing a contrasting visual impact. The site also contains several buildings, each with its features and contemporary works. The weak point is the signage and maps, which are horrible, but any questions you ask some official that he lead the way. Another negative point is access. The location is in the city of Brumadinho the more or less 70 kilometres from Belo Horizonte. Is a poor and small city with terrible signage.

  • The largest open air museum in the world. Inhotim is a unique experience, an art form to be lived, felt and touched! I was enchanted by a museum so alive, unlike anything, I've ever seen in the world....  more »
  • Vast art installation with immaculately maintained gardens. Contemporary and modern art, impressive architecture in the middle of rural Minas Gerais. Large parking area, but rough roads getting there. Some parts are wheelchair accessible, but mostly not. Prepare for walking fairly long distances in the sun, uphill and downhill. There is a reasonable entry fee with an electric cart tour option for extra. There are two self-serve buffets and some gift shops inside.
  • A wonderful place and one of Brazil's must-sees. The natural and man-made art here is beautiful! Every medium and style is explore on this refreshingly modern 340-acre plot. The food is good, too. My one complaint is that there weren't any tours despite them being scheduled the day of my visit.
  • I really enjoyed the walking around and the scenery. I think the art was a bit weird most of the time, but then again, that's art for you.
  • Beautiful and really special place, with a vast and impressive collection of works, installation pieces and gardens. One of my favourite places in the world!
  • The best Botanic + Museum in Brazil. Highly recommended
