Panteao da Patria, Brasilia

3.6
#8 of 53 in Museums in Brasilia
As you approach this National Heritage site, you will be struck by the impressive, dove-shaped building; designed by Brazil’s beloved Oscar Niemeyer, it is a classic example of his distinctive, modernist style. Inside Panteao da Patria, you will find the Steel Book statue, on which are engraved the names of the nation’s heroes, each of them ardent advocates of freedom and democracy. There is also a collection of artwork, including Athos Bulcão’s poignant red mural and João Câmara Filho’s black and white panels. The beautiful stained-glass window by French-Brazilian artist Marianne Peretti, who used purple, red, and white--representing introspection, passion, and peace respectively--to create a symbolic map of Brazil, provides you with a thought-provoking focal point. Abandoned in the middle of the Plaza of the three powers. A dirty shame, tarred, no maintenance of the sidewalk, stairwell. Was closed, a shame and symbolizes the current Brazil very well.

All the monuments in Brasilia are very interesting, because along with the architecture and the blue sky form urban landscapes natural and beautiful.

The Pantheon was built shortly after the death of Tancredo Neves, in your honor ... the time passed ... the place was getting lost ... very dark ... weird. For those who are in the square of the three powers with time to spare can even think to give a passadinha there ... don't know if it's worth it.

Where to stay in Brasilia

Choosing where to stay during your trip to Brasilia can be somewhat difficult. Due to the city's distinctive layout and lack of a historical "center," accommodations have developed in clusters. By far the best range of options surrounds the distinctive green space of Jardim Burle Marx, in the city's two planned hotel districts. You can also find a good selection of lodgings around Vila Planalto, the city's designated political district, which sits not far from Brasilia's main lake. Wherever you decide to stay, make sure it's within reasonable distance of a metro station or bus stop--you'll want good access to public transport in order to easily navigate the city.
