Catedral Metropolitana, Brasilia

(4.7/5 based on 9,000+ reviews on the web)
A concrete hyperboloid architecture constructed from 16 concrete columns, Catedral Metropolitana is a landmark cathedral by Oscar Niemeyer. This contemporary structure is surprising large on the inside considering its small exterior because the cathedral is largely built underground. As you stroll along the entrance pathway, bronze statues of the four apostles greet you.

You'll walk through a dark tunnel under a reflecting pool surrounding the roof to enter the building. This pool helps to cool the building. Walls lined with white marble and three angels suspended from the ceiling create a light, airy feel. Although you'll feel like you're entering a dark, solemn, and small space, intense natural welcomes you through the large roof's 2,000 m2 (22,000 sq ft) of stained glass. • Is amazing!!!!! Beautiful, clean, respectful. It was an amazing visit and has been minimally designed.

  • once you go to Brasilia take the time to just have a walk in this beautiful church. the modern architecture and the simple combine to leave you in awe and of course try speaking through the walls.
  • A single Cathedral with beautiful stained glass Windows and angels on the ceiling. The external architecture is very beautiful, reminding the Crown of our Lady.
