Sao Miguel Caves, Bonito

4.1
#6 of 13 in Nature in Bonito
Before you enter the Sao Miguel Caves, you'll be led through a canopy of trees alive with birds and across a swinging suspension bridge; that's just the beginning of the tour. You guide will continue with you through the dark passages of the cave using a flashlight to illuminate some of the extraordinary formations along the way. Bring a jacket to protect you from the cave's chill and enjoy the descent into the jungle's underworld. Near downtown, about 10 km By dirt road. With a lecture about the cave, with bathroom available at reception, tour. The Guide Ronaldo very attentive. It's not a visit. At Headquarters, there are numerous parrots. Unmissable

The caves of San Miguel are very close to the famous Cave of Blue Lake, but the ride is very different. On this tour you go completely inside of the formations of the caves and see up close everything that is being built for thousands of years, are completely different proposals 02!

The place is very beautiful and has several multi-colored macaws for observation. We were close to them. As for the way to reach the cave, walk on a catwalk at the height of the treetops, pretty much. Already the cave is very interesting and well marked and illuminated. The guide was very friendly and even gave us tips on how to take better pictures.

The caves of San Miguel are very beautiful with many speleothems (Stalactites, stalagmites, columns, pearls, coralóides, etc). We saw some bats and insects cavernícolas. The caves of San Miguel have no mirror of water. Are 2 but only 1, is open to visitors and even so only partially.

Where to stay in Bonito

The main town in Bonito provides a good range of accommodations to suit diverse tastes and budgets, with everything from luxury resort-style hotels to backpacker-friendly hostels dotting the gridded urban area. Heading east out of the main town, a few remote pousadas (guesthouses) lie along the course of the Rio Formosa. Pre-booking is essential, particularly during peak season (July and December to March), because of the relatively small number of options available for an ever-growing demand.
