Catedral Sao Paulo Apostolo - Igreja Matriz, Blumenau

4.6
#1 of 8 in Historic Sites in Blumenau
Catedral Sao Paulo Apostolo - Igreja Matriz is very different from traditional churches, exhibiting more modern architecture. Opened in 1958 and designed by Gottfried Boehm, the church has a tower 45 meters (148 feet) high and three electronic bells. It was built with stones of red granite and stained glass windows that produce a brilliant light and colors. At the entrance, you will be greeted by a cedar carving depicting Our Lady, Christ Crucified, San Jose, and the Paschal Lamb. Symbolically, they represent family, forgiveness, community, and sacrifice. Once inside, two rows of white pillars on either side welcome you to rest and reflect. The Cathedral is very beautiful. A beautiful architectural design that perpetuates an air of modernity without, however, prejudice the sensation of recoil that the interior must provide. A very pleasant visit, even for those who do not profess the Catholic faith, we can enjoy it from the perspective of architecture and from the perspective of a place to worship.

Beautiful and imposing Cathedral. Very nice building, worth a visit even if it's not for religiousness and the architecture. What I believe is paid parking. If the Blumenau Valley.
