Praca Sete De Setembro, Belo Horizonte

2.1
#22 of 33 in Sightseeing in Belo Horizonte
Landmark Tourist Spot
One of the busiest squares in the city, Praca Sete De Setembro boasts an obelisk at its center, situated at the middle of very busy junction of two major avenues. Two major avenues (the Afonso Pena and Amazonas) intersect with two smaller streets at 90 and 45 degree angles, creating an active environment shared by traffic vehicles and pedestrians. The square got its name on the occasion of commemoration of the centenary of the Independence of Brazil on September 7, 1822. The obelisk, also known by locals as “lollipop”, is made of granite and its needle-thin height reaches 7 m (22 ft). • I couldn't find the square, despite the sign on the street corners indicate there is a square where I was. Actually, it's a confusing intersection of three streets, with an obelisk in the middle. I thought it was strange.

  • If I were to indicate places a tourist go, hardly would indicate the 7 Square. Even if it has some interesting buildings designed by Niemmeyer, is a very tumultuous region. I think expendable for a tourist to meet.

  • Here you can find anything, from banks to a shopping gallery, motels, fast food and cigarettes. It's a common meeting place and scenery for the various events in the city. Always dirty and crowded. Be careful for robberies.
  • O Centro de BH, a q nois encontrar
  • Centro de BH. Vale a pena ir.
  • Cental area of Belo Horizonte. Near Cidade mall, Rock Gallery and Palácio das Artes. Some times can be crowded mainly in Christmas season. If you want to visit you need to take care of your belongs and cell phone. Many homeless around!
  • Central point of Belo Horizonte (minha querida BH). Very crowded. You have to be careful with the local traffic and millions of people trying to sell everything to you like mobile phones., mobile covers and many other "services". You have to be careful as you can also be robbed so especial attention to your belongings as you might be in every big city in Brazil. All in all a nice place.

Where to stay in Belo Horizonte

Most of the city's accommodations lie within the inner ring road, in close proximity to the best attractions in Belo Horizonte. For convenience, look to stay in the vicinity of Praça Raul Soares, the city's central park and rotary. You can also find a range of high-rise hotels a bit farther south, in the neighborhoods of Boa Viagem and Savassi, close to Praça Diogo de Vasconcelos. About 10 km (6.2 mi) north of the city center, the 1940s neighborhood of Pampulha stands out as one of the most interesting places to visit in Belo Horizonte, and offers a decent selection of lodgings near the airport.
