Forte do Presepio, Belem

4.5
#2 of 7 in Historic Sites in Belem
Historic Site Tourist Spot
The panoramic views from the ramparts are alone well worth a visit to Forte do Presepio. Standing among the original canons, you can look out over Guajará Bay and witness, from a safe distance, the impressive flocks of vultures descending on Ver o Peso market. The fort itself is in the historic center of Belém and home to a small museum where you can take a tour and learn about the local history. A collection of ceramics and native Tupi and Marajoara artifacts dates from before the arrival of the Portuguese to the region. Using our online itinerary creator, Belem attractions like Forte do Presepio can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

Where to stay in Belem

In Belem, choose from a pleasant array of accommodations depending on your needs. Its central business district, around Avenida Presidente Vargas, offers plenty of large, high-end hotels catering to visiting businesspeople and those looking to enjoy the city in style. Alternatively, you can stay in the historical neighborhood of Campina, where budget lodgings, such as youth hostels and independent guesthouses, make up the majority of options. If you're visiting Belem primarily as a base for onward travel, consider staying near the city's main bus station in São Brás.

  • Is a Fort from which began the city. Is preserved and has a museum. Has a small bridge and a moat, which generates at least two surfaces to walk. Is located in front of the Guajará Bay, as usual a lot of wind in the face. Can be considered a very romantic place, as a result.

  • With a bit of history and peoples that para here lived a few centuries ago. On site there are ceramics, items and vases. Admission is paid, but nothing absurd.
