Cidade Velha, Belem

(3.5/5 based on 340+ reviews on the web)
The oldest district in Belém, Cidade Velha is home to many superb examples of colonial architecture. Amongst the many palaces, churches and colonial mansions, don't miss the dazzling white Church of St. Alexander, now home to the Museum of Sacred Art of Pará, or the literally named Palace of Eleven Windows. The beauty of the architecture is matched by Mangal das Garças ("Mangrove of the Herons"), a 40,00 sq m (430,556 sq ft) nature reserve home to diverse species of birds, both wild and in an aviary, and a butterfly garden with almost 800 insects. Learn about the history of the Brazilian navy at the Museum of Navigation of the Amazon, or climb the park's 47 m (157 ft) observation tower for an unrivalled 360 degree panorama of Belém. A visit to Cidade Velha represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Belem vacation builder to plot your vacation.

  • The old town is the ancient heart of Baker, have to visit this place, close to the See the weight and the docks, is a unique place that you can see the History of the city, for those who like history and architecture.

  • I love going to this side of town. There you can see the Church of the Cathedral, which is beautiful, the Church of St. Alexander and the Museum of sacred art that is right in front and still walk around happy Lusitania, with the crib, which has a very interesting Museum there, with pieces of Indian handicrafts. Walking you can go to the Carmo Church, which is also very beautiful. This area of the old city is the richest in things to see in Bethlehem and all points of interest nearby, but one must be careful with the time that is, because there's always robberies and thefts in this region, unfortunately!

  • Is a good place to visit, but you have to be a little careful because it is a place that in some places the movement or lack thereof can be dangerous, and the lack of local care is too big.
