Bonita and Azul lakes, Barreirinhas

(4.8/5 based on 1,000+ reviews on the web)
Catching sight of these lagoons for the first time will take your breath away. The vast 300 sq km (116 sq mi) “Brazilian Sahara” is dotted with crystalline pools of fresh rainwater, ranging from turquoise blue to emerald green. The water is warm and, while home to many species of fish, turtles and clams, swimming in the pools is encouraged. There are no paths to Bonita and Azul lakes through the constantly shifting dunes, and as some can reach heights of 40 m (131 ft), you would be wise to hire a four-wheel-drive vehicle or join a tour. Make sure you take water with you, as there are no shops in this ecological paradise. • I did the ride for the Lençóis Maranhenses Park, however these lagoons were dry due to the dry spell that lasted for the last five years ... but I did of a dip in the smaller pools.

  • Lençóis Maranhenses National Park has a unique landscape and indescribable. The path is a bit irksome, actually an adventure aboard a Toyota 4 x 4.

  • Places to fall in love once. Beautiful lagoons and blue are beautiful carvings made by nature. All bathe because no one is able to resist such beauty and freshness in the midst of a desert climate. Are giant dunes.
