Museu Dona Beja, Araxa

Categories: Specialty Museums, Museums
Housed in an early 19th century mansion, characteristic of Brazilian colonial architecture, Museu Dona Beja tells the history of Araxá, from the pre-colonial indigenous settlements to modern day, through a collection of archaeological objects, furniture, art, clothing, and documents. The museum is named in honor of the semi-legendary figure, Ana Jacinta de São José, also known as 'Dona Beja' (Lady's Kiss). She was a prostitute of famed beauty, which won the hearts of men and envy of women.
