Metropolitan Cathedral, Aracaju

(3.6/5 based on 360+ reviews on the web)
A white, neoclassical centerpiece for the city, Metropolitan Cathedral stands as a memorial to Our Lady of the Conception. Visit the cathedral's interior to enjoy the murals adorning the ceiling and its grand architecture, realized in 1875. Since that date the church has served as a respite away from the hustle and bustle of the city, but if hustle and bustle are what you're looking for then walk around to the right side of the cathedral. There you will find a number of cafes and shops to peruse and enjoy a late afternoon coffee. Make Metropolitan Cathedral a centerpiece of your Aracaju vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Aracaju family vacation planner.

  • Main Cathedral of Aracaju, located in one of the squares in the city centre. Pay attention to stained glass Windows and paintings within the Church. And also passed the handicraft market in the square in front.

  • Located in Praça Olímpio Campos, s/n-Centro, Aracaju/SE. Was built in 1862 and opened in mid-1875. He became Cathedral January 1910. The architecture is linked to the striking elements of neoclassicism and Gothic Revival architecture with bows orgivais. It was declared by presidential decree number 6819, of 28 January 1985.
