Setor Historico, Antonina

In 2012 the local government acknowledged the historical importance of Antonina by making its Setor Historico (Historic Sector) a heritage sight. The region was one of the earliest areas explored by the Portuguese Crown in southern Brazil, and the town owes its early prosperity to gold mining in the area. Take a walk down cobbled streets with colorful colonial houses on either side, visit the three historic churches, including the Church of Our Lady of Pilar, dating back to 1714, and try the regional dish, Barreado. • Perhaps the most preserved of the city (which doesn't mean much). Quiet place to stroll, but the maintenance of historical goods could be much better. Do not create great expectations. If you're around and you have a moment, take a passadinha there. Other than that, it's not worth the displacement and lost time.

  • I was surprised with Antonina, the historical part of the city is really preserved. Nothing better than getting to know the city on foot exploring every corner. Prepare a nice camera because the architectural wealth is gold.

  • Although require much maintenance, still it is worth visiting the historic sector of Antonina. It's a place so quiet, has a look super cute and has so much potential. I can't understand why the Government will not invest in preservation. A shame.
