Matriz Church, Angra Dos Reis

4.0
#2 of 7 in Historic Sites in Angra Dos Reis
Architectural Building Church
Built over 100 years ago, Matriz Church is a secular church with baroque details and exuberant polychrome altars. From the outside, the church looks very simple, but the interior boasts brilliant gold accents and anonymous sacred images. Be sure to ask someone to tell you the story about the bone, which looks like the image of Our Lady of Conception, who is the patroness of the city. This church is worth a visit for the religious and non-religious alike, because of its architecture and history. Plan to see Matriz Church and other attractions that appeal to you using our Angra Dos Reis trip builder.

Where to stay in Angra Dos Reis

While there are plenty of accommodations in Angra dos Reis itself, the industrialized township serves best as a stopover point for travel, rather than a destination in itself. Look for lodging a few kilometers outside of town, where you'll find any number of laid-back beach resorts in pristine settings. The coast just north of town offers hotels and dive resorts, while the seafront to the south brims with beach resorts and eco lodges. You can also stay on Ilha Grande, just a short ferry ride from the main township, to immerse yourself in Brazilian island life.

  • With knowledge of history there. Very pretty. worth knowing the beautiful churches of the city. And are near each other.

  • Is the most famous and traditional church of the city of Angra dos Reis and is located in the city centre. Simple and ancient architecture. It's not very good.

  • The Church is a nice option for those who like culture and downtown in the center of Angra. And, from the Centre of Angra, you can stroll to the Islands.
