Okavango Delta, Maun

Listed as a World Heritage Site, Okavango Delta represents an important checkpoint for many migratory animal species--it also boasts one of Africa's greatest concentrations of year-round residents. Covering a sprawling area that shrinks and expands with seasonal flooding, the swampy delta shelters an abundant variety of mammals, birds, fish, and predatory beasts. Go on a safari trip to observe the rich animal and plant life of this region, providing a home for around 200,000 large mammals. Put Okavango Delta on your schedule, and learn what else deserves a visit by using our Ngamiland East journey maker site .

  • I did not have much luck seeing predators here but being the the delta travelling between islands in morokos, and getting out to do walking safaris on the islands was an incredibly unique experience. ...  more »
  • It's a long ride to get there, but it's worth. Right after we run in the Park we saw some elephants at the watering hole and stood quietly, a whole customer arrived with their babies, gigantic! Later lion after the hunt and a Leopard, etc. anyway in the morning is many giraffes, at 7:00 good to see the world there still in order and everything.

  • One of a kind place in Africa. Must visit but pick your season. Most water from February to June. All the game species are here. All kinds of accommodation. From camping on your own, up to the ultimate luxury lodges. Fly in or drive yourself.
  • We met our guides in Ficksburg, Free State, who took us three over the border into Botswana, where we had liquid refreshments at the 'Duck' in Maun. From there we were taken into the delta, our camping site consisted of several tents, an outdoor toilet and shower and a kitchen - these were made out of wood and bamboo. At night, we could hear the sounds of the animals, including the 'Big Five', but we were told by the rangers, the animals would not attack our tents, but would walk around them. We had a spectacular visit both to the Delta and to Moremi game reserve. This is truly a magical place where you can scoop up the water and drink. It tastes nothing like our treated city water - it's pure and refreshing ! Ruth Segercrantz Five stars
