Vijećnica, Sarajevo

(4.7/5 based on 380+ reviews on the web)
Vijećnica serves as a symbol of the city and is the most representative building from the Austro-Hungarian period that bears witness to the city's historical dramas. It was built between 1892 and 1894 in a pseudo-Moorish style--a blend of Orient and Occident, as the city itself. The most notable feature of its interior is the six-angled hall topped with the glass dome. Notice the painted decorations in the main stairway and the stained-glass window ornamented with floral patterns under the dome. The hall burned down in 1992, and it was officially re-opened after restoration on May 9, 2014. It has housed the National and University Library since 1949. • We could not enter and enjoy its interior but its exterior well worth a visit. A building which is now completely restored, but with a past full of history very much. A very nice exterior, a vastness and beauty of library, which in its day was the largest in the Balkans. If these in Bosnia don't miss this important point.

  • Although the historical significance is now an empty building of Republika Srpska during the war by all books burned.. There's not much left of the original building. visit our new built than during our mini had a photographic exhibition. Let me see if you call doing still a nice short.

  • Beautiful building from outside and inside. Entrance fee is only 5 KM per person. It has exhibition about the building and history so it is worth a visit. It will take about an hour to see everything.

  • Sarajevo is a city which is proud on its mixed history and culture. Though no other building displays this diversity better than the Vijećnica. The architect of this building was an Austrian, but he sought inspiration in many Arabic works around the world. Vijećnica is essentially a building which is heavily inspired by the Arabic style, although with its own unique twist.
  • A gorgeous and altogether fascinating place. It contains an excellent historic exhibit, and is often used as a galleries. If you go to Sarajevo you must not miss the opportunity to visit!
  • Beautiful building. Nothing more to say. 5 KM might be a bit to mich for it. Still worth a visit.
  • The interior with the dazzling glass roof is a definite must see! The exhibition in the basement is informative, but sometimes too much text at once
  • One of the most beautiful buildings in Sarajevo. Wonderful architecture
