Vijećnica, Sarajevo
(4.7/5 based on 360+ reviews on the web)
Vijećnica serves as a symbol of the city and is the most representative building from the Austro-Hungarian period that bears witness to the city's historical dramas. It was built between 1892 and 1894 in a pseudo-Moorish style--a blend of Orient and Occident, as the city itself. The most notable feature of its interior is the six-angled hall topped with the glass dome. Notice the painted decorations in the main stairway and the stained-glass window ornamented with floral patterns under the dome. The hall burned down in 1992, and it was officially re-opened after restoration on May 9, 2014. It has housed the National and University Library since 1949. • The Old Town of Sarajevo is very small, very walkable and filled with history. Before going, read the Cellist of Sarajevo, a real heartbreaker!
  • Built in 1896 and neo-Moorish style became in City Hall and then after World War II step to national library with important manuscripts and books of inestimable value were destroyed following a fire in 1992, many have been recovered but still unrestored is. Rebuilt, it is inspired by the Alhambra in Granada. The tram runs ahead and many of the streets of Sarajevo and borders the Turkish quarter. It is the most ancient in Europe tram opened in 1895. Visit obliged.

  • Incredibly beautiful building (especially inside) with exciting history, recently refurbished in 2014. A bit boring, but definitely worth a visit! The details inside the built is amazing!

  • Sarajevo is a city which is proud on its mixed history and culture. Though no other building displays this diversity better than the Vijećnica. The architect of this building was an Austrian, but he sought inspiration in many Arabic works around the world. Vijećnica is essentially a building which is heavily inspired by the Arabic style, although with its own unique twist.
  • A gorgeous and altogether fascinating place. It contains an excellent historic exhibit, and is often used as a galleries. If you go to Sarajevo you must not miss the opportunity to visit!
  • Beautiful building. Nothing more to say. 5 KM might be a bit to mich for it. Still worth a visit.
  • The interior with the dazzling glass roof is a definite must see! The exhibition in the basement is informative, but sometimes too much text at once
  • One of the most beautiful buildings in Sarajevo. Wonderful architecture
