Sebilj Brunnen (Fountain), Sarajevo

4.4
At Baščaršija square amid a Middle Eastern-style market, Sebilj Brunnen (Fountain) represents a pseudo-Ottoman wooden fountain that dates from 1754. Although the original one burned in 1852, the fountain was reconstructed and the current version dates back to 1891. Visit the spot to see where travelers used to refresh themselves: a government official would be appointed to stand there and fill pots with water, which he would then give free to anyone who was thirsty. Today, the fountain is one of the favorite photographic spots in Sarajevo. • The well is often a symbol of Sarajevo and hence worth a visit if you are in that part of the city. It's nice and it's a nice gathering place for both tourists and locals. Many cafes nearby and quaint little shops. Easy access to both public transport and taxi.

  • This little Center Fountain in place, different appearance and other common Fountain, is the manufacture of wood, very elegant in appearance. Like other 歐 Chau small Fountain model courses, a lot of people likes Fountain equipment for bottles of water to drink in the future.

  • This fountain stand in the start of the old town and you cannot mist it. And as you can see there are some pigeons living there.  more »

  • Central spot of Sarajevo's old town area. Great spot for a photo with friends or to have a fresh clean water straight out of the faucet and while you are there you can feed the pigeon's which are like symbol of Sebilj.
  • As an Asian travelling to Eastern Europe, this area is best representing mixture of cultures. Good and inexpensive food. Spend few hours walking in old market is recommended!
  • Fountain... lots of pigeons... calm atmosphere... Definitely worth to see whole city.
  • Sit at one of the many cafes and have a coffee and some delicious Turkish food and watch the town pass by. Lots of pigeons to feed too, if that's your thing
  • Great little square. Lot of small shops. Great atmosphere. Hundreds of pigeons :-D

Where to stay in Sarajevo

Although a compact city, Sarajevo offers a wide range of accommodations. Staying in Bascarsija (the old bazaar area) offers proximity to the most popular tourist attractions, long-established restaurants, and charming teahouses. Staying close to the activity won't cost a fortune in this fairly inexpensive town, and it is surprisingly peaceful late at night. You can choose from a number of historical hotels, but those travelling on a budget may prefer a private or dorm room in one of the many hostels. Modern establishments, which can have more reliable facilities, are mostly in the outskirts.
