Sebilj Brunnen (Fountain), Sarajevo

4.4
#3 of 19 in Historic Sites in Sarajevo
At Baščaršija square amid a Middle Eastern-style market, Sebilj Brunnen (Fountain) represents a pseudo-Ottoman wooden fountain that dates from 1754. Although the original one burned in 1852, the fountain was reconstructed and the current version dates back to 1891. Visit the spot to see where travelers used to refresh themselves: a government official would be appointed to stand there and fill pots with water, which he would then give free to anyone who was thirsty. Today, the fountain is one of the favorite photographic spots in Sarajevo. • It's an amazing place for taking pictures, i would really recommendit for tourists. It's surrounded with shops that has from shoe laces to hats and the food there is amazing, you can literally find whatever you are looking for there
  • Centar of the old town in Sarajevo...one of the "must go" places. Feel the atmosphere and hospitality of the locals. Enjoy the architecture of the Ottoman empire. Meeting point of the East and West.
  • The most friendly pigeons I've ever seen, I merely extend my arms and they land on me, and they don't run away when I try to pet them. So many ethnic food restaurants, bakeries, and handcraft shops that it's hard to choose from.

It was relocated by Austrian architect Alexander Wittek in 1891. This article is about sebil in Sarajevo. For other sebils, see Sebil (fountain).
