Sebilj Brunnen (Fountain), Sarajevo
(4/5 based on 240+ reviews on the web)
At Baščaršija square amid a Middle Eastern-style market, Sebilj Brunnen (Fountain) represents a pseudo-Ottoman wooden fountain that dates from 1754. Although the original one burned in 1852, the fountain was reconstructed and the current version dates back to 1891. Visit the spot to see where travelers used to refresh themselves: a government official would be appointed to stand there and fill pots with water, which he would then give free to anyone who was thirsty. Today, the fountain is one of the favorite photographic spots in Sarajevo. • Located in the old district of Bascarsija, built in wood and stone in the year 1753, Moorish-style. It was a kiosk with two sources, where nowadays is no longer a place where cool but the place of meeting or entrance to the old town next to the square and cobblestone streets of the Souk, where there are many bazaars or traditional and artisan shops, cafe or bars and restaurants. People seem to avoid staying at home, but it seems that they try to take advantage of every day on the street. After the prayers, many men and women remain in the cafes of the surrounding chatting, other accompanied by the family will eat or walk through the area. During the night, when it is fully illuminated is a magical place.

  • The signature of Ottomans in Sarajevo. And also the meeting point of people in town. And it starts the Bascarsija
  • ... if you are visiting the rebuilt library or the Bascarsija in Sarajevo. Sit in one of the coffee Shops on the place around and have a look at the fountain. No better way to relax
