Sarajevo Olympic Bobsleigh and Luge Track, Sarajevo

4.3
Sarajevo Olympic Bobsleigh and Luge Track, an abandoned bobsled track overlooking the city of Sarajevo, was built for the 1984 Winter Olympics. The track was used for competitions until the siege of the city in 1992, when it served as an artillery position for Bosnian Serbs. Look for the war damages and bullet damage found in one of the last turns of the course. Today, the remnants of the track, covered in graffiti and overgrown with forest plants, are a favorite walking path for urban explorers. Currently the site is being renovated for the 2017 European Youth Olympic Winter Festival. • To talk to me about it, the former swiflet of the Winter Olympic Games, after years of sun rain and disrepair, have lost the luster of the day and become a waste market. But someone will graffiti the game, and turn a place that has already been forgotten and become a shadow lover! However, since the race road is far from the city, it may require a team to reach it.

  • How history changes places, form Olympics to conflicto. InforBosnia and Asim gave the best explanation for getting an idea of recent history  more »
  • Kinda hard to find ... you have to follow for the Olympic village, then climb up the mountain where there were plants, turn left when you see a mural monument with two pieces of bobsleigh. It follows a road through the Woods and here we are! The track is there ... abandoned and all drawn ... is interesting, but at the same time it makes you sad to see an important place in 1984 and then left abandoned for the next war. ..

  • A solemn, eerie and wondrous place. We took a cab to the park, explored and walked the track all the way down the mountain. So interesting to see the degraded structures and reflect that nature is truly a force to be reckoned with.
  • Amazing place. It's the only bobsled run in the world, of which I'm aware, that allows you to walk down the full length. Very cool. It's falling apart, and it's covered with grafitti, but it's still a very cool thing to do!
  • A fun break from all the genocide museums. We got a taxi up (9KM metered) and walked back down. The forest is beautiful and the views of the city as you walk back down are great.
  • It is very interesting place, there is a view of all Sarajevo and it's beautiful. There is also the old construction of bobsleigh, it's weird and sad, but I recommend this place, it was for me first urbex experience
  • Little sad and full od history . Last olympic in Sarajevo

Where to stay in Sarajevo

Although a compact city, Sarajevo offers a wide range of accommodations. Staying in Bascarsija (the old bazaar area) offers proximity to the most popular tourist attractions, long-established restaurants, and charming teahouses. Staying close to the activity won't cost a fortune in this fairly inexpensive town, and it is surprisingly peaceful late at night. You can choose from a number of historical hotels, but those travelling on a budget may prefer a private or dorm room in one of the many hostels. Modern establishments, which can have more reliable facilities, are mostly in the outskirts.
