Church of the Holy Archangels Michael and Gabriel in Sarajevo, Sarajevo

(4.8/5 based on 70+ reviews on the web)
At Church of the Holy Archangels Michael and Gabriel in Sarajevo, explore a valuable collection of Orthodox icons dating from the 13th through 19th centuries. The small stone church was first mentioned in Ottoman sources in 1539, but it was built on much older foundations, probably from the sixth century. Notice the two stone candelabras next to the altar and a carved wooden iconostasis that frames Byzantine-style icons. Apart from icons, the museum in the port houses illuminated manuscripts, old printed books, liturgical objects, clerical vestments, and embroidery. The church also has relics of early Christian martyrs, such as the right hand of St. Tecle.
