Inspirock Rating:
4.2/5 based on 180+ reviews on the web
The neo-Gothic and Romanesque-styled Cathedral of Jesus' Heart serves as the largest cathedral in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and has become a symbol of Sarajevo. Completed in 1889, the 43.2 m (141.7 ft) tall church resembles Notre Dame, with elements of typical Bosnian ornamentation. Tour the interior to see stained-glass windows that elaborately depict Biblical motifs, and see numerous frescoes created by world-famous Italian-German painter Alexander Maximilian Seitz. Observe geometrical shapes on the floors and walls, and view detailed artistic ornamentation on the woodwork. You'll also see the archbishop's tomb at the site. Our Sarajevo family vacation planner makes visiting Cathedral of Jesus' Heart and other Sarajevo attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.
