Old Bridge (Stari Most) presents a reconstructed version of the 16th-century Ottoman bridge over the Neretva River, which was destroyed in the Yugoslav wars. Considered to be one of the most typical structures of the Islamic architecture in the region, the bridge is reminiscent of the centuries reign of sultans, Suleiman the Magnificent, and the strength and suffering of the Balkan people. After surviving for more than 425 years, the bridge finally fell under an attack of more than 60 shells. Today you can see it standing again, revived, amidst castles and houses.
  • Typical and essential, the old bridge of Mostar is a story in itself! He is also a part of the history of the Mostar of today, because it separates Muslim and Christian neighborhoods! Better a bridge than a wall... On both sides of the Neretva, there are places of worship that seem to challenge as sentries on part and on the other an invisible border... Countless shops of handicrafts along the streets that lead to this famous bridge...

  • Going from the city you can go to the bridge completely undetected so you might want to go below the level of the city and see the monument from the bottom because there is doing the greatest impression. An additional attraction are heroes leaping from the bridge after they earn an appropriate amount of minor

  • This place is more than amazing. Should be seen at least one time. To feel of the mix of religious in patient is great. The old streets are awsome. The river Neretva is fantastic. Colourful, fast, deep.
  • This bridge was destroyed back in 1993,and was rebuilt in 2004. I feel that it's most interesting to visit the bridge after reading about the history behind it. One nice vantage point in from a mosque just a bit down the street overlooking the river.
  • The old bridge of Mostar, is a historical building. The fact that it was made with inconvenient materials like eggs as a binding material. It is from 16th-century Ottoman bridge, and stood so for 427 years, until it was destroyed on 9 November 1993 by Croat forces during the Croat–Bosniak War. The reconstruct is created, but the original one was in my memory much better. Here is also an interesting event called "The old bridge diving". It is a traditional annual competition in diving organized every year in mid summer (end of July). It has been done 477 times as of 2013.[11] It is traditional for the young men of the town to leap from the bridge into the Neretva. As the Neretva is very cold, this is a very risky feat and only the most skilled and best trained divers will attempt it.
  • Very beautiful bridge in scenic town. Be careful of your step as the stone is extremely slippery and it is very easy to fall. There is also a local that hangs out on the bridge and tries to solicit money to jump. He mainly teased people and didn't end up jumping. I guess nobody was that interested in seeing him plummet into the water.
  • Beautiful bridge and nice atmosphere. A bit too crowded during the day, but worth visiting.
