Old Bridge (Stari Most), Mostar

(4.6/5 based on 2,200+ reviews on the web)
Old Bridge (Stari Most) presents a reconstructed version of the 16th-century Ottoman bridge over the Neretva River, which was destroyed in the Yugoslav wars. Considered to be one of the most typical structures of the Islamic architecture in the region, the bridge is reminiscent of the centuries reign of sultans, Suleiman the Magnificent, and the strength and suffering of the Balkan people. After surviving for more than 425 years, the bridge finally fell under an attack of more than 60 shells. Today you can see it standing again, revived, amidst castles and houses. • No where else quite like this so definitely worth a visit and explore but no need to stay for more than a few days.
  • vredi doci u Mostar i videti most ali ne samo most. citav grad je prelep. pazite samo na klizavo kamenje na mostu
  • The view from the bridge is beautiful, providing views of all of the City. The bridge itself it beautiful, and steeped with history. I would recommend a walking tour of the City which gives an insight...  more »

  • We came there while visiting Croatia and is was worth the detour The old city, the bridge, are very nice (maybe to much, there is a little "disneyland" feel to it) But you're also making a travel through history as the city was the place of civil war only 20 years from now. Get out of the center and you'll see the impact of it. Get's you thinking. Also, you can eat for a little more than a dollar and sleep 6 people for 30 bucks a night. Change of scenery garanteed
  • Wonderful place to be seen at least once in life. The city is literally divide in 2 part: Christian and Muslim side...between ? A bridge...an old Bridge very fascinating with people who jumps from it
  • The most important and the most beautiful part of Mostar! In summer, every few moments a local dives from the bridge to the river Neretva. On one bank, the Christian world, on the other Muslim, each of a different culture. The common hatred remains unseen to the eyes of a tourist.
  • "Dark forces" made old neigbours their enemy. You can see how european civilisation can be dangerous. Near the bridge says "Never forget but forgive forever".
  • Reconstruction of the 16th century Ottoman bridge destroyed by Croat forces in 1993. Nice place, must see if you visit Bosnia. Nice view on the river Neretva and on the village. Overcrowded in high season.
