Old Bridge (Stari Most), Mostar

Old Bridge (Stari Most) presents a reconstructed version of the 16th-century Ottoman bridge over the Neretva River, which was destroyed in the Yugoslav wars. Considered to be one of the most typical structures of the Islamic architecture in the region, the bridge is reminiscent of the centuries reign of sultans, Suleiman the Magnificent, and the strength and suffering of the Balkan people. After surviving for more than 425 years, the bridge finally fell under an attack of more than 60 shells. Today you can see it standing again, revived, amidst castles and houses. • A good lunch with view and the day will be super! Mostar has an old town very small and very charming, rich of culture, absolutely a "must" if you are in holiday in Bosnia!  more »
  • Destroyed in mortar fire in November of ' 93, during the Balkan war, rebuilt 12 years later, using the same style as the previous one. The Stari Most is not simply a bridge, is the symbol of a country that barely try to leave everything behind. But it's not easy. The signs of war you see them in some houses, which have holes, still derelict buildings, and especially in the cemetery in the middle of the city, on the main road. Many graves date from 1991 to 1996 white which are causing.

  • The bridge itself does not have much but given your history it is worth visiting it. In the afternoon there are people jumping the bridge and is worth waiting for. It is not that they are Olympic but hey see them jump has its attractions. Ask some dough if see you that if. There are two museums on each side of the bridge. I visit the of (cheap) war and worth seeing as it was that horror. In the end was nothing done...

  • Beautiful bridge and town! It's interesting in the summer. Some people will collect money and when they get enough they will jump in. The water is freezing so they're very brave people. I could barely stay standing in the water for a minute.
  • Beautiful bridge! Don't forget to take a picture from the other bridge located further in town. Pictures taken from the shore also get you a good shot of the landscape!
  • It was on bucket list. I went. I saw. I was moved by the thought of the conflict and how it must have been. But they're on it. Typical tourist tat. I'm glad I went
  • This is why the Mostar is famous. Spectacular old bridge (thought reconstructed at some percentage after the war) with very nice view around. Bring proper shoes because you need to be careful while crossing the bridge.. The old city with the cafes, the tavernas and the restaurants around is simply fabulus. The people is also quite friendly and helpul. Parking not a big problem but you need to pay probably (100m away).
  • A rebuilt bridge to replace the original 16th hump-backed Ottoman bridge destroyed during the 1990s Bosnian war. Spectacular sight, absolute symbol of the city /area / country. Really glad that I've been here, seen the bridge, heard from local people about the war.
