Old Bridge (Stari Most), Mostar

Old Bridge (Stari Most) presents a reconstructed version of the 16th-century Ottoman bridge over the Neretva River, which was destroyed in the Yugoslav wars. Considered to be one of the most typical structures of the Islamic architecture in the region, the bridge is reminiscent of the centuries reign of sultans, Suleiman the Magnificent, and the strength and suffering of the Balkan people. After surviving for more than 425 years, the bridge finally fell under an attack of more than 60 shells. Today you can see it standing again, revived, amidst castles and houses. A good lunch with view and the day will be super! Mostar has an old town very small and very charming, rich of culture, absolutely a "must" if you are in holiday in Bosnia!  more »

Destroyed in mortar fire in November of ' 93, during the Balkan war, rebuilt 12 years later, using the same style as the previous one. The Stari Most is not simply a bridge, is the symbol of a country that barely try to leave everything behind. But it's not easy. The signs of war you see them in some houses, which have holes, still derelict buildings, and especially in the cemetery in the middle of the city, on the main road. Many graves date from 1991 to 1996 white which are causing.

The bridge itself does not have much but given your history it is worth visiting it. In the afternoon there are people jumping the bridge and is worth waiting for. It is not that they are Olympic but hey see them jump has its attractions. Ask some dough if see you that if. There are two museums on each side of the bridge. I visit the of (cheap) war and worth seeing as it was that horror. In the end was nothing done...

The bridge is beautiful, the town is pleasant to walk around & it's lovely to relax by the river. However the streets leading to the bridge on either side are a tourist funnel of souvenir shops. I went on a day tour from Dubrovnik, which is perfect if you're just there on holiday. I was travelling around Croatia & wished I'd scheduled to stay overnight here, think it would have a much more laid back atmosphere when us coach tours had gone.

Must see. Beautiful. One of a kind in a world. Destroyef in a war , then rebuilt with same stones pulled from the river. Also famous for the high jumps (28 - 36m)

The date devil jump from the bridge is breathtaking. Feels like a place lost in time. A small war museum has some good photos of what happened here just 2 decades back.

With hindsight we would not have made a detour to Mostar. The bridge is the big draw but it is almost drowned by the number of tourists and tourism related stores. There are much better ways to pass your time in this beautiful part of the world.

As the main attraction of Mostar, the Old Bridge is definitely worth checking out if you you're in the area. The centuries-old bridge was destroyed in the Croat-Bosniak war and rebuilt in 2004. The bridge itself is quite slippery and the stone "steps" are quite far apart. Use caution when crossing! Entertainers occasionally jump from the railing in an attempt to raise a few coins from photographing tourists.
