(4.7/5 based on 320+ reviews on the web)
Flowing under the famed Ottoman bridge, the emerald-green Neretva River stretches 225 km (140 mi), offering  popular sites for rafting excursions and highlighting the area's diverse ecosystems. Known as the setting for numerous battles and historical events, the river has strong cultural implications for the Ottoman era and World War II. In addition, the river was an invaluable natural resource for numerous peoples, such as the Illyrians millennia ago, the Romans, and the Byzantines. Today local residents use it for drinking water, fishing, and generating hydroelectric power. Many visitors like to photograph the river as it flows under the Mostar Bridge.
