Crooked Bridge (Kriva Cuprija), Mostar

4.3
#9 of 42 in Things to do in Mostar
Crooked Bridge (Kriva Cuprija) was designed and built as a test model for the construction of the bigger and more famous Old Bridge. The Turks built the model to see whether a bridge with such a semicircular stone arch could withstand loads. The bridge was mentioned for the first time in the endowment of a wealthy merchant, Cejvan Cehaja, in 1558, which means that it was built at least eight years before the Old Bridge. Climb the stone steps on either side of the bridge and walk over its cobblestoned path. The arch is a perfect semicircle measuring 8.56 m (28 ft) wide and 4.15 m (13.6 ft) tall. Floods destroyed the bridge in 2001, but it was rebuilt on the initiative of UNESCO. The bridge is in the old quarter near the old bridge itself and spans a creek flowing into the Neretva. It is surrounded by old buildings which are mostly used as restaurants, pubs or hotels.  more »

EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED. Although some of the staff were very friendly and helpful the management was unprofessional and unfriendly. We certainly would advise people to give this one a miss. We spent two days in a pokey little attic room. Although neither my wife nor I are tall we often banged our heads on the sloping ceiling. The toilet didn’t work properly, the shower door was broken and the light over the sink kept flashing on and off. We complained about the room and asked to be moved but were told there was no other room free. No action was taken to fix the problems. On the second evening we found a much better room at another hotel and informed the hotel that we would be moving out the next morning. The hotel manager insisted that we will have to pay for the third day since we had said we may stay for three days. As it was our wedding anniversary we did not want to cause a scene but said that we were not happy about their attitude. The manager then offered to move us to a larger suite at the same cost. We reluctantly had to accept the offer. This experience soured our experience of Mostar where we would have stayed longer. On our first day we were warned by the hotel staff not to eat at any other restaurants as they were over priced. Since we are seasoned travellers we chose not to follow their 'advise' and ate elsewhere without ever being overcharged. Obviously a pathetic attempt to get us to eat at their hotel.

Top hotel in centre of old town. Rooms very clean and modern with designer bathrooms. Restaruant very nicely decorated and very clean. What fascinated me, freundlischkeit staff and good food in restaurant. When visiting Mostar then you should book this hotel. Location just 2 minutes from old bridge away, parking free of charge, staff help case free of charge. Rooms are very large and quiet. In the evening in restaurant very pleasant with well trained staff. Good wines and fresh fish. Breakfast is very good and at time of booking be sure without book because breakfast can book. Breakfast is amazing.
