Blagaj tekija, Mostar

(4.4/5 based on 460+ reviews on the web)
Situated below a massive cliff at the source of the Buna River, Blagaj tekija represents an Ottoman religious structure--one that is still used by monks--in a Mediterranean setting. With its temperate climate, idyllic setting, and drinkable fresh water, the site was a favorite spot for numerous Roman nobles, Ottoman viziers, and Austro-Hungarian officers. See the river--one of the strongest in Europe--and observe a wide variety of birds here, including the threatened white-headed vulture. View the plots that hold Mediterranean fruits and tour the shrine, tomb, and mausoleum. • The old summer setting of pasha from Mostar. Very nice place, museum inside, worth of visiting. Crowded during the season.
  • The setting is incredible. The inside mildly interesting, despite very nice staff and some reasonably good explanation (on a piece of paper).
