Hilma Hooker, Bonaire

Historic Site
Now the stuff of diving folklore, Hilma Hooker is often considered one of the best shipwreck dives in the Caribbean. The vessel sank in 1984 after a vast amount of marijuana was found onboard. Now the 70 m (229.6 ft) vessel lies on a sand flat between two coral reef systems commonly known as Angel City. In clear deep blue waters, circle the perimeter of this dramatic wreck then swim in for a closer look alongside shoals of tarpon and parrotfish. With depths varying from 20 m (65.6 ft) to 35 m (114.8 ft), the wreck has spots for both beginner and more advanced divers to explore. • Large fish, nice and different... a must see if you go diving in bonaire.... bring a torch!! I recommend it  more »
  • This is an easy shore dive short swim and the wreck is right there she is on her side and not really an option to penetrate lots of sea life around  more »
  • The wreck lying off the coast here is very easy to dive. It is located on the side, so you easily can dive in the ship's hull. It is vmtlch "Die-hard" fans of the wreck. to open, because it offers no closed course and cabins - it's so safe to dive. The Tarpone, who "have moved into the wreck" and here are a highlight at this place. The big silver fish are in the penumbra of the ship hull and offer a nice contrast to the gloomy atmosphere. Overall, this Divespots is a great contrast to the other dive sites, where you will find the typical Caribbean coral and fish.
