Visit Donkey Sanctuary Bonaire and meet its charming residents. Founded in 1939 by a Dutch couple, the sanctuary provides refuge and care for sick or orphaned donkeys in Bonaire. Take a drive through the large park where the donkeys are free to roam--you can pet them and feed them carrots on the drive. Visit the special care meadow, where pregnant, injured, and baby donkeys are kept, learn about the efforts of the sanctuary, and support the donkeys by buying souvenirs from the gift shop. After the tour, you can admire tortoises and iguanas in the garden, or relax with a refreshing drink on the terrace, which overlooks a salt lake. • The donkey sanctuary is a huge piece of land that is fenced off. Nothing much else was done to the terrain besides adding some shelters. You thus have to visit by car, otherwise it's too hot and tiring and the donkeys will overrun you. The animals themselves are adorable and friendly, but they are quite greedy, so they will chase your car and block your way in search of food. This is of course to be expected and it was really fun and exciting. Near the entrance there is also a paddock where you can go in and pet the donkeys and feed them. The place also has very nice and clean bathrooms and the staff was really friendly. The tickets were 7$ per person and there is a box for donations.
  • The donkey's are very cute and when you open your windows the donkey's dtick their head in your car and you can feed them. And i love that.
  • If you are an animal person this is definitely a stop to check out. Donkeys aren't always the most interesting of animals but since most of those in the sanctuary are rescued or raised by the staff they are friendly, and the young ones are awfully cute. The special care area lets you walk around close and pet any willing to come up to you. The staff is also super friendly and will answer any donkey related questions you may have. One note, if you happen to ride there on bikes, be mindful the tires are definitely free game for some donkey chewing if you leave them out!
  • When you like donkeys in your car, then you are at the best place of Bonaire.
  • Lots and lots of Donkeys and they like carrots
